#MeMadeMay2023

May is a big month in any sewist’s calendar. #MeMadeMay prompts us to play around with our handmade wardrobe, finding new ways to style our self-sewn garments, fostering a renewed appreciation for all our efforts.

The seasonal change means we get to mix, match and layer. Pulling out clothes which have been packed away for half the year can feel a bit like shopping for free (life hack: I use the same concept with my kid’s toys, game changer).

Sharing our makes with the community on Instagram as part of #MeMadeMay gives us an excuse to get excited together about sewing. We get inspired by the maker community as inevitably awesome makes we see popping up on our feeds jump straight to the top of our own ever expanding lists!

Each sewist’s #MeMadeMay pledge can be very individual, there are no hard and fast rules. It can feel a bit frenzied and for some, feeling obliged to participate each and every day is overwhelming, while for others it’s highly motivational!

This year I started off #MeMadeMay gun blazing, but lost steam somewhere mid-month as life commitments returned to centre stage.

At the start of the month I made a mental note to grab more outdoor snaps of my makes (aka feeling embarrassed in public, airborne tripods on windy days, my kids practicing Dutch-angled portraits). Lol.

How do you tend to feel about Me Made May? Did you participate this year?
